About

Podcast is a collaborative audio recording and editing activity module for Moodle, enabling groups of students to plan, record, edit, and submit podcasts - all within the LMS.

Key Features

  • Virtual Recording Studio – Students join a live recording room together via WebRTC. Each participant's audio is captured as a separate track, with real-time audio level indicators and device selection.
  • Multi-Track Editor – A full DAW-style timeline editor with cut, trim, drag-to-reposition, zoom, and undo/redo. Students can arrange clips, adjust volume, and apply audio effects (fade in/out, EQ, compression, noise reduction) - all in the browser.
  • Collaborative Editing – Multiple students can edit the same podcast simultaneously with real-time sync, presence indicators, clip-level locking, and a consensus-based submission workflow.
  • Podcast Player – A rich playback experience with canvas-based waveform visualisation, speaker identification (colour-coded by contributor), timed comments, and playback speed controls.
  • Flexible Access Modes – Four organisation modes to suit any pedagogy: Moodle groups, teacher-managed, open, or student-led with invitation system.
  • Grading & Feedback – Supports group or individual grading, scale or point grades, timed comments as inline feedback, a marking workflow (submitted, in marking, graded, released), quick grading, and CSV export.
  • Formative Mode – Set grade to None for purely formative exercises. Optionally require teacher review before publishing, or let students share immediately on submission.
  • Crash Recovery – Recordings are periodically saved to IndexedDB. If a browser crashes mid-recording, students are offered recovery on their next visit. Session keepalive prevents Moodle timeouts during long sessions.
  • Duration Limits – Set a maximum podcast length enforced at submission. Students can record freely but must edit down to the limit before submitting, encouraging editing skills.
  • Custom Cover Art – Students can upload cover images for their podcasts, giving them ownership and a professional feel.
  • MP3 Export – Students can export a high-quality MP3 of their podcast for use outside Moodle, for portfolios, social media, or personal archives.

Built for Education

Whether used for group discussion exercises, interview assignments, language practice, reflective audio diaries, or assessed presentation work, Podcast gives educators a complete production workflow inside Moodle. Students develop collaboration, communication, and digital editing skills while producing something they can be proud of, without ever leaving the platform.
