HOSTED FOR YOU.NOTHING TO RUN.
hosted in London · backed up nightly · kept up to date
Nucleus runs federated Moodle: a hub for your shared courses, and as many spokes as you need - each its own Moodle, in its own tenant, on its own timeline.
Author courses once in the hub and share them with every spoke. Each spoke takes a new version when it suits, so nobody's course changes mid-term.
Isolation
TENANTS YOU OWN
Each spoke is its own Moodle in its own namespace: own database, own files, own web address, on a domain of your own if you like. Real isolation, not a pretend multi-site.
Delivery
HOSTED OR SELF-RUN
Hosted by DK Labs on UK infrastructure, or run it yourself on Kubernetes by arrangement - the same control plane, the same chart.
How it works
RequestSign up and describe your federation. I review every request, usually within a working day.
HubOnce approved, pay for the hub and it's built automatically - usually a few minutes. It's where your shared courses live.
SpokesAdd a spoke per school, branch or client. Each is live on its own subdomain with TLS sorted, usually a few minutes after you pay, and can move to your own address, like learn.yourschool.org, whenever you like.
RunUpdates, nightly off-site backups and monitoring handled. Spokes upgrade on their own timelines - no lockstep.

Every federation has a 14-day money-back guarantee. Add or remove spokes at any time; you pay for the part of the month you use. You can change a spoke's size from the portal at any time: it restarts the spoke, and the difference is added to or taken off your next invoice. A Standard hub is sized for about 1,000 active learners - a guide, not a limit, like the spoke sizes above.
Open source
GPL v3
The four plugins Nucleus runs on are free and GPL, so you can see exactly what runs on your Moodle. They expose web services for a control plane: on their own they don't form a federation.
local_nucleushubGoes on the hub: publishes course versions, owns the catalogue, exposes the federation API.
local_nucleusspokeGoes on each spoke: pulls versions from the hub and restores them as running courses.
local_nucleuscommonGoes on both: which federation the site belongs to, shared settings, the control-plane contract.
auth_nucleusGoes on each spoke: lets people sign in with their hub account, when the federation turns that on.
The plugins are the community path: no control plane or portal included - that's what the tiers above are for. They need Moodle 5.1 or later.
Who it's for
Nucleus earns its keep wherever one organisation needs many Moodles - shared content, independent branding, separate data:
Charities with regional branches
Multi-academy trusts
Training providers white-labelling delivery
NHS trusts with specialty departments
University groups and colleges
Professional bodies running regional CPD
One Moodle is plenty for most organisations - if that's you, you want the end-to-end service instead.

Replies can take 2-4 weeks
Nucleus is in early access, so a reply can take 2-4 weeks at the moment. Tell me about your organisation and I'll tell you honestly whether it fits. If it looks like it might, I'll walk you through it on a call, free, so you can see whether it's right for you.
